SEEKING WISDOM FROM WAR'S MORAL INJURIES

COMING HOME HAUNTED

THE PROJECT

The Coming Home Haunted Project helps combat zone veterans transform moral injuries into life-long wisdom. This wisdom arises not despite hardship but through reflection and finding meaning in suffering, fostering personal growth.

Open to adult male veterans of any combat role or era, it requires no tests—only a willingness to share truthfully and seek growth with others.

The project respects professional counseling but approaches veterans as capable men, not patients. It distinguishes PTSD, the relentless replay of life-threatening moments, from moral injury, the soul-deep pain of actions clashing with core values. By addressing these wounds, veterans find healing, understanding, and wisdom.

WISDOM

The  Coming Home Haunted Project is all about your unique search for wisdom, a wisdom which will come to you because of  your unique moral injury. Not in spite of it.

Wisdom is learning how to better understand ourselves and the world.  It drives us to become a better man.  Wisdom is born from our Moral Injuries.

Wisdom is not something we are born with— it goes beyond knowledge or intelligence. It is something to earn, always through hardship or suffering.  It grows best from reflection and finding meaning from hardship.

QUALIFYING

Coming Home Haunted is for adult male veterans who served in any combat zone, in any role, in any era. There are no qualifying tests, interviews, or surveys. To qualify, all you need is the sense that you experienced Moral Injury in a combat zone. You must be open and willing to speak truthfully about it with other veterans who live with their own moral injuries. You must be willing and hopeful to turn your unique moral injuries into wisdom.

EXPERTS

We respect professional and religious counseling, and we do not try or pretend to replace them. Coming Home Haunted does not approach adult men as if they are lost children in need of “treatment.” We do not involve clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, or professional counselors.

PTSD VS MORAL INJURY

Moral Injury and PTSD share traits.  But they are different, and we should not mix them up. We will take time to talk through their distinctions.

The PTSD Twin is the merciless replaying in your head of life-threatening moments. The sounds, smells, and sights. It triggers your survival instincts and the mortal fears that warfare burned into you. It will not leave you alone.

The Moral injury Twin hurts you differently. It is the pain of living with decisions and judgments that clash with your deepest values. It is an insidious injury that only grows heavier over time, and it does not heal on its own.

Moral injury is an injury to your deepest self, your soul. Hence, when we come home from war with Moral injury, we "Come Home Haunted."
